Last Thursday, March 21st, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders went to theatre to see a play titled, ¨Beetles, Bugs and Butterflies¨ performed by the Forum Theatre and Education. Some days before, the students were introduced to all of the characters in the play… bugs! They were able to get to know their names and some characteristics of each.
All of the grades, along with the teachers, walked about 15 minutes to the theatre. It was nice for the children to get outside and show the community how well behaved Son Canals children are.
Once we arrived to the theatre, the stage was all set up with the various props and stage lights.
During the play, the main characters, Katie and James, involved the audience quite a lot. In fact, multiple children from our school were selected to assist the actors. They were able to get on stage and show a great understanding of English.
The play was not only a fun excursion for the children, but it also tied into our Healthy Body, Healthy Mind unit. It taught lessons such as; one must always be kind to the others, one must not judge the others on their outter appearance, and finally, to always work hard and be an equal teammate.
The students participated a lot and had fun learning in the process. Each and every one made Son Canals proud and we hope to be able to do this again sometime!
