Monday,  March 4th, after a long weekend we re-started  our lessons with a nice visit: Alexandra Herts  finally came to Son Canals on her school day off and as she had already promised when I had visited her in January,  she guided us through a very interesting mindfulness session.

Our students already knew something about her, but this morning  they met her in person for the first time. During this session, they were able to get more information  by asking any of questions they had.

With each group, we sat in a big circle so we could see one another and feel part of the team. After breaking the ice, Alex explained to us that thanks to the practise of mindfulness, we can learn to focus and to make decisions in a more conscious way.  With this practise, it is more difficult to be driven away by sudden emotions or though patterns. Mindfulness brings along an inner peace and reinforces self-confidence as our answers are guided from a wider perspective. She also insisted on the importance of knowing how to step back and find this inner-peace, especially when one is going through hard times. Although this may all seem very easy, it takes time to achieve this goal. Only with a lot of practice will we be able to accomplish it.

Alex brought her mat and her “zafu” to the class and showed us how to use them in  order to do the relaxing exercises. We were told about how to sit, how to place our legs and hands and how to get the right posture to start with.  Afterwards, we did 5 deep breathings with our eyes closed, while we tried to be very conscious about each step in the process. Silence was one of the protagonists in that moment. Then, the kids could explain how they had felt.

Alex suggested that they all put it into practice at home from now on and acknowledge the new feelings they  have as the days pass on. It would be great to do it in the mornings to welcome the new day. She also encouraged them to finish each journey  by recalling a nice memory lived in it.

Thank you, Alex, for the new knowledge we got from you today. We hope to be capable of changing certain habits  in our daily life in order to feel more confident and happier. By putting into practice the tools you gave us, we will become better citizens and therefore, create better societies very soon.

See you in Alaró. The English days are coming !!!!!!!!!!!
